Sue is an artist, printmaker, designer and workshop tutor based at Scots Pine Studios in West Sussex. Her textile designs have been sold to international companies including IKEA, TJ Maxx and Pottery Barn. Her wall art has sold internationally and has also appeared on the BBC Drama series ‘Cuffs’. She is a member of Chalk Gallery in Lewes, the Adur Art Collective and Horsham Artists with whom she regularly exhibits. ‘Beginners Workshops’ are run by her at Made and Making, The Garden Room, South Downs Garden Centre, Hassocks. Sue’s ‘Downs View’ reduction print was shortlisted for the 2018 Artists and Illustrators of the Year Award and exhibited at the Mall Galleries.
Using a combination of photography and sketching, Sue creates her linocut images. Once she has drawn the picture she transfers it onto the linoleum. She then uses cutting tools to carefully carve into the Lino. Ink is then rolled onto the surface with a brayer. Paper is applied on top followed by the pressure of either a wooden spoon or printing press. The paper is then carefully pulled back to reveal the final image. Most of her prints are produced in Limited Editions. For multi-coloured pictures the reduction method is used which is as above except a lengthier process involving waiting for each colour to dry, cutting more Lino away and applying fresh ink for each layer.
