Heather has been a member of HAOS since 2013. She also belongs to other local art groups. She has been developing her artwork over the last thirty years with inspiration coming from nature, gardens and places she has visited throughout her life.
Heather always enjoyed drawing and painting from early childhood but as an adult family commitments prevented any progress with art until spare time evolved in the nineteen eighties. She completed several art courses over the years, including a John Blockley watercolour course and several botanical courses with well known artists. Whilst working for Adult Education she taught a beginners art class during the nineties. Art has proved to be a great therapy for difficult times and now, since retirement, art remains an enjoyable past-time which has a positive benefit in her life.
Heather has done several local commissions, most notably one for Chesworth Farm which now hangs in their Visitor Centre. Three of her works are on display in the Horsham Museum in the section about the museum garden. These were part of her illustrations for her book ‘A Celebration of Flowers from the Horsham Museum Garden’ in 2012. Recently she has enjoyed working on some ink drawings of several large and interesting trees, scenes from the Isles of Scilly, Sussex scenes, and currently more flower portraits. There are cards available from some of her artwork.
